Comprehensive Metabolic Profile Testing

What’s a reliable, basic lab test to work up that’ll provide a broad spectrum of information? What blood test can check for diabetes or high blood pressure? Something’s just off these days… what test should I request?

A Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) is a very common test. Also called a chemical screen, it’s requested by doctors across the country to diagnose or screen for a number of potential medical concerns.

It involves a group of blood tests used to identify conditions, follow up on conditions, or as part of an annual test to map out overall health.

A CMP is like the basic metabolic profile (BMP) but includes liver functioning tests.

What does a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel Test look at?

The CMP is a 14-panel blood test. For accurate results, you must fast (not eat or drink) for at least 8 hours prior to sample retrieval.

The tests will look at your:

  • Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride levels)
  • Glucose level (blood sugar)
  • Protein levels
  • Kidney and Liver function
  • Cholesterol
  • Calcium

The U.S. National Library of Medicine has spelled out what normal results for the CMP panel should look like.

At Test Smartly Labs, we’re here to perform the blood draw for your CMP panel and send a report to you and/or your doctor so you can discuss what the results mean in regards to your health and well-being.
