It’s their job to ensure safe transport of such materials.

These are typically everyday materials like natural gas, and they are transported by employees who operate, provide maintenance, and/or employ emergency-response when it comes to pipeline transportations.

Drug and alcohol regulations for PHMSA

Employers regulated by PHMSA are required to:

  • Have prevention plans and programs to promote anti-drug and alcohol misuse
  • Perform pre-employment drug testing, post-accident drug testing, random drug testing, reasonable cause drug testing and return-to-duty
  • Perform post-accident alcohol testing, reasonable suspicion alcohol testing and return-to duty testing after an alcohol offense
